Q: Pocket Dial4Me generates Dial Tones but why doesn't it connect me?

A: There are several things you have to consider:

bullet
Are you using a phone that accepts Dial Tones?
Most telephones accept Dial Tones (DTMF), however there are a few exceptions like
bulletpulse dialing system
bulleta phone system that does not allow Dial Tones (e. g. at work so that you can't dial long distance numbers...)
bulletCellular Phones (see next question)
bullet
Did you hold the phone handset close to the HPC so that it touches the speaker?
Locate the position of the speaker in your HPC. It should be easy to spot because it is usually visible through a group of small holes in the casing.

bullet
You might have to increase the duration of the dial tones and pause between them.
Go to the options dialog and enter higher values in the DTMF tone duration and DTMF tone pause fields.

bullet
If your HPC vibrates when generating the dial tones you should decrease the volume.
Go to the options dialog and enter a lower value in the volume field.

Q: Can I use Pocket Dial4Me with a Cellular Phone?

A: I know of no cellular phone that has an option to accept dial tones (DTMF) - without this PD4Me will not be able to dial unless you are a

Credit/calling card user:

Program the phone/access number of the calling card into your cellular phone and disable the credit/calling card feature in Pocket Dial4Me.

When you want to dial a number:
bulletSelect a Contact in PD4Me
bulletConnect to your credit/calling card company using the number you programmed into your phone
bulletTap Dial

Q: Does PD4Me need a Modem to dial?

A: Pocket Dial4Me does not need a modem nor does it support one at this time.

It generates the dial tones through the speaker of your Handheld PC, a feature available on all devices.

Q: Under PHONE NUMBER FORMAT, I have set the country and area code. However, the phone numbers are not translated correctly. What's wrong?

A: Open the Phone Number Format Dialog again, the text reads "For incomplete contact phone numbers use". This means that Pocket Dial4Me will add these country and area codes to phone number who don't have them.

To set your location press the "Set Location" button (same dialog) - this will open the Windows CE Communication Properties - and enter your data there.

Q: Does it come with free updates?

A: All registered users are entitled to a free upgrade when the next version of Pocket Dial4Me is available.

Q: PD4Me does not appear to work with a Sharp Mobilon HC-4100

A: The Sharp Mobilon HC-4100 has a bug with playing wave files - you need to apply the patch from Sharp to get it working.

This is the response I got from Sharp USA: "Regarding an update for the wav file issue, it doesn't exist yet, and I don't have a tentative date yet for you. Please periodically check http://www.sharp-usa.com/mobilon/software for any and all Sharp Mobilon updates."

I wasn't able to locate the patch at this time.
